Terms of service
Last updated September 29, 2026
These terms apply to your use of Fanlight, operated by Hane Studio. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them.
1. The service
Fanlight organizes public New York City records into researched sales opportunities for fire alarm companies. For each opportunity we connect a city event to the property, the business that appears to manage it and the public business contact details we could find, and we link to the original records. We summarize records; we do not alter them.
A free account shows five sample opportunities. A paid subscription adds live opportunities assigned to your organization in the areas you choose, with tools to track your team's follow-up.
2. Business use
The service is made for fire alarm and fire-protection businesses and the people who work for them. Use it for your business, not for personal or household purposes.
3. Your account
- You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email address; accounts do not have passwords. Keep access to that mailbox secure.
- Owners and admins of an organization can invite teammates, choose areas and manage the subscription. You are responsible for activity under your organization's accounts.
- Tell us promptly at fanlight@hane.studio if you think someone has used your account without permission.
4. What public records do and don't tell you
Opportunities are based on public records, mainly FDNY summonses published by the NYC OATH Hearings Division, housing registrations and city tax-lot data. Keep in mind:
- City data can be published late, be incomplete, or be corrected after publication. Management and contact information can be out of date.
- A summons or case record describes what the city alleged and the case's status. It is not proof that a violation occurred.
- We don't know whether a property wants a new contractor, and we don't know whether it already has one.
- We don't promise that any opportunity leads to a conversation, a quote, a job or revenue.
- Nothing we provide is legal advice or a statement of what a building is legally required to do.
We show the public records and research sources behind each opportunity where available and correct errors you report, but you should verify details before relying on them.
5. Live opportunities and exclusivity
When a live opportunity is assigned to one paying subscriber, we do not assign that same opportunity to another paying subscriber, including after it is released or the subscription ends.
That is the whole of the promise. The underlying city records stay public, so other businesses can find the same property and contact it. It is not a contractual exclusive right to the property or its work, and it says nothing about whether the property already works with a provider.
6. Sample opportunities
Sample opportunities are historical examples built from real public records. Every free account sees the same five samples. They are not live opportunities, they are not assigned to you, and their contact details reflect research at the date shown.
7. Acceptable use and lawful outreach
You are responsible for contacting businesses lawfully, including telemarketing, do-not-call and commercial email rules. Don't use the service to:
- contact individuals at home or build profiles of private people;
- share your sign-in with people outside your organization, or resell or republish opportunity research;
- try to access other organizations' data, or interfere with or overload the service.
8. Subscription and payment
- The subscription is $199 (USD) per month, billed monthly. It renews automatically each month until it is cancelled.
- Payments are processed by Razorpay. You enter card details in Razorpay's checkout; we don't receive or store your full card number.
- Owners and admins can cancel from Settings → Plan. Cancelling stops the next renewal; live access continues until the end of the period already paid for, then the account returns to the free samples.
- Your team's notes and workflow history are kept after access ends and return if you subscribe again. They are not readable while the subscription is inactive.
- Billing questions: fanlight@hane.studio.
9. Pausing and ending access
We may pause an organization's live access, for example while resolving a payment problem or a breach of these terms. Your data is kept while access is paused.
To close your account, email fanlight@hane.studio. Cancel any active subscription first so it doesn't renew.
10. Your notes and feedback
Notes, statuses, estimates and feedback your team adds belong to your organization and are visible to its members. Our staff can access them when needed to run and support the service. We use data reports and outcome feedback to correct and improve our research.
11. Our service
The Fanlight software, design and research compilations belong to Hane Studio. Public records remain public; these terms don't restrict your use of the original city records.
12. No guarantee of results
We work to keep research accurate and the service available, but we provide it without promises about accuracy, completeness, availability or business results beyond what these terms state.
13. Changes
We'll post changes to these terms on this page and update the date at the top.
14. Contact
Questions, corrections or removal requests: fanlight@hane.studio. How we handle personal information is described in the Privacy notice.
